The basic cold virus can make life pretty uncomfortable for even the healthiest of people. Here are 3 ways to reduce your chances of picking up the virus as it circulates through your community and if you do come down with it, to help your body to recover quickly.
1. Drink Bone Broth
Bone broth has two amazing benefits: it helps keep our gut healthy which keeps our immune system healthy and it nourishes us without putting pressure on our digestive system.
You can read my blog post here on how to make bone broth.
2. Take Your Vitamins
Sometimes our bodies don't get the right amount of vitamins from our foods, particularly when we need higher doses when we are fighting a cold. When you have a cold, your body will respond particularly well to Vitamin C (try to find one that is not ascorbic acid), Zinc and Olive Leaf Extract.
3. Hydrate and Soothe
One of the best ways to stay hydrated when you have a cold is to drink warm water with the juice of half a lemon squeezed into it and a teaspoon of raw or Manuka honey. The lemon will help your body to alkalise and the honey contains wonderful antimicrobials.
Remember that symptoms are your body's way of telling you something is not right. Rather than hide the symptom, work with your body to provide it with the tools to heal.
