I love a breakfast smoothie. Sometimes I don't feel like a meal in the morning but a smoothie is a great way to start the day, particularly in the warmer weather. Here is a recipe I created that has great protein, fat and energy to get you through a busy morning. And if you are short on time, a smoothie is a great breakfast to take with you.
I like a chocolate smoothie to be quite a dark chocolate flavour and I also like to limit the amount of sugar I have. So I've added a small amount of maple syrup but if you like it strong, you can omit the maple syrup. If you don't have a great blender, you may need to either purchase chia meal or process the chia seeds dry and then add the wet ingredients. Chia seeds also absorb liquid so if this smoothie sits around for a while, add a little more liquid (even water) if it is too thick to drink.
For this smoothie for one person I used:
2 tablespoons raw cacao
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon chia seeds (awesome protein!)
250ml milk of choice (I used coconut milk because it is a wonderful source of fat to fill you up)
In a blender mix the ingredients until smooth. You can add ice if you like it a bit thicker.
