Strawberry milk is one of those products that I never buy. But I thought my children would love some so I decided to create a healthy version.
I used real strawberries and some dates for extra sweetness. It was so unbelievably delicious that it was finished before I'd even told my children what was in it!
200ml milk of choice (almond, coconut, rice, cow, raw)
1/4 cup strawberries
2 medjool dates (soaked in 50ml water for 10 minutes)
Mix the ingredients together in a blender (including the dates and the soaking water) until smooth.
In the height of strawberry season (and sometimes in the middle of strawberry season), strawberries are really cheap. We go to the farmer's market and pick up a 2 1/2 kilo tray for $10 (that works out to be $1 for a 250g container). My children tend to munch through a good portion in the car going home but when I get home, I rinse them, take the tops off and lay them out on a plastic chopping board and pop them in the freezer. When they are frozen (or part frozen) I pop them into a ziplock back and then we have strawberries for smoothies, baking and desserts throughout the year. I freeze them like this because if you pop them into a ziplock bag and freeze them you tend to get a clump of strawberries that you can't separate.
